The Paintings of Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo in Movement Show

This world premiere dance project is an in-depth analysis of the works of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, which unearths elements inherent in Mexican culture that are deeply rooted in class differences.  Director Zenón Barrón interprets these into the language of dance in this selection of traditionally based choreographies by focusing on specific elements within the paintings. The dances described here are a small sample of what the show features.

XICHULENSE YO SOY SHOW

Xichulense Yo Soy is a homage to the home state of Artistic Director, Zenón Barrón and was inspired by the celebratory customs of the pueblo of Xichú. A tribute to the lost culture and music from the state of Guanajuato, world premier pieces will transport you to a magical place and time when the Xichulense people ruled Guanajuato’s Sierra Mountains of Mexico.

The Punjabi-Mexican community is a unique cultural phenomenon that Ensambles displays through a lively collaboration with Duniya Dance and Drum Company. Together, the two groups explore how this new culture evolved into our present-day communities and traditions. With both cultures having such distinctive but similar characteristics, this rare portrayal of a union between two ethnic groups is presented through a beautiful expression of dance and music.
